8 cool ideas on how to refresh the interior of the living room

Effective and inexpensive ways to make a room cozy.

1. Rearrange the furniture

There is no easier and cheaper way to change the situation than to rearrange the furniture. A little castling will not only help to add variety and better organize the space, but also allow you to see the room from a different angle. This makes it easier to decide what is really needed and what is long overdue.

Just do not forget that this seemingly simple event requires careful preparation. Don’t move things in front of your eyes. So you can spend a lot of time and in the end only make things worse. Better take a tape measure, measure all the furniture you have and sketch out a rearrangement plan on paper. Or plan it on your computer using convenient services or programs.

2. Update old stuff

Recycling is now more relevant than ever. Do not rush to part with the furniture heritage of the Soviet era – better give it a new life.

So, a shabby sofa can be easily turned into a trendy one if it is covered with a fabric of actual colors. By the way, it will be cheaper to drag upholstered furniture than to buy a new one. A dull grandmother’s chest of drawers, repainted in a bright color, will turn into a star of the interior. Moreover, all this can be done not only with the help of professional restorers, but also on their own.

3. Transform your walls

Of course, painting the walls or wallpapering is the best solution. But for this there is not always the means and time. An old-fashioned wallpaper pattern can be softened by hanging posters or paintings close to each other. Of course, the ugly wall itself will not disappear from this, but such a technique will divert attention from it and create an interesting decorative effect.

Do not rush to drive nails into the wall – first arrange a preview of the future composition. Take measurements from your paintings and attach sheets of paper of the same size to the wall. Think, try different options, take a photo.

4. Hang mirrors

A mirror is a decorator’s best friend: it visually expands the space, improves lighting and completes the interior. A large mirror can simply be placed on the floor. A small one will look luxurious as part of a wall gallery. Or, instead of one large one, hang several medium-sized mirrors: they will reflect the light beautifully.

5. Don’t Forget the Nice Details

It is bad if all the furniture in the room is too different. It is difficult to give a single style to such a room. Accessories will come to the rescue: a new lamp, a blanket or photo frames will make the interior more thoughtful. Another tried and tested method is textiles. Update curtains, sofa cushions, tablecloths. If you want to save as much as possible, you can sew it all yourself.

6. Replace hardware

Any little thing, such as furniture or door handles, can play a big role in the design of a room. Finding them is not difficult: they are sold in almost any store selling household items.

7. Plant the room

Indoor plants will help to revive the living room. A few pots with geraniums or dracaena – and the room will immediately become an order of magnitude more comfortable. If your gardening skills are lame, just choose succulents: they are unpretentious, but spectacular.

8. Consider lighting

If you only think about your light bulbs when they burn out, it’s time to change that. After all, the light tone greatly affects the atmosphere in the room. If the living room is not cozy enough, just replace the cold light bulbs with warm ones. There is also the opposite effect: thanks to cold lamps, the room seems cleaner and more spacious.

  1. I love moving furniture. I can probably rearrange it in my room five times in a week, and then several of them in the same day. Only a tape measure is unlikely to be useful to you, because if you just need to move a table / sofa / bedside table and something else that is not very dimensional, then this can be done by eye, and without any extra help, the main thing is to know how to properly carry furniture so as not to rip it off back and lower back. But some larger furniture, like a full-fledged, awkward bed, or, for example, a wardrobe, is better not to move at all, because they are too heavy, or if you are already thinking about dragging them, then in this case you really you will have to think through everything in advance, and even call someone for help.
