Soda, coffee, potatoes, newspaper and other improvised means will help you.
Why does the fridge smell?
Most often due to spoiled products. So check if they are lying around with you.
Sometimes a clogged drain hole can be the cause. It, like the container into which water flows, must be periodically cleaned.
A dirty rubber seal on the gridge door can also smell.
Remember: plastic absorbs odors. Therefore, the longer you delay fighting them, the more resilient they will be.
How to get rid of the smell in the fridge
If you threw away spoiled food, checked the drainage and seal, but the smell remains, first wash the fridge.
For this, a solution of soda or vinegar is well suited. Dilute 1-2 tablespoons of soda or 2-3 tablespoons of vinegar in 1 liter of warm water and wipe the walls and shelves. Additionally, you can treat them with lemon juice.
Special cleaners for fridges will also help. They deal with both dirt and odors and are usually available as a spray. Use them according to the instructions on the package.
If the problem persists after cleaning, store-bought or homemade odor absorbers will come in handy.
They can also be used instead of washing the fridge if the smell is not strong, and also simply as a preventive measure.
1. Purchased odor absorber
Just place a small jar or sachet in the fridge for the period indicated on the package.
2. Soda
It absorbs odors very well. Refrigerate an open pack or pour the soda into a wide container or other container.
You need to change the soda about once a month.
3. Coffee
It also has the ability to absorb odors. Place a small glass of instant coffee, beans or grounds in the gridger. Change the product about once a month.
With a light odor, it will cope in a few days or even overnight.
4. Activated carbon
It is also absorbent. Grind 10-20 tablets of activated charcoal and pour onto a plate or other container. Keep in the fridge for 1-2 days.
For prevention, you need to change the remedy once a month or more often.
5. Salt or sugar
Pour a few tablespoons onto a plate or other wide container and refrigerate. Replace after a month or even sooner.
6. Newspaper
An unusual but effective way. Crumple up a few sheets of newspaper and place them on the side shelves or in the vegetable drawer. Change once a week.
By the way, you can put the newspaper in the freezer.
7. Bread
Arrange a few slices of black bread on the shelves of the fridge. It will absorb all unpleasant odors. Slices are best changed once a day or two. Eating used bread, of course, is not worth it.
8. Potato
It is also a good absorbent. Peel 1-2 large root vegetables and cut into several pieces. Put them on plates and refrigerate for 1-2 days.
9. Tea bags
Do not rush to throw away used tea bags. Spread a few pieces on the shelves of the fridge, and they will absorb an unpleasant smell. Change them once a week or more often.
10. Citrus
Cut 1-2 lemons, oranges or grapefruits into large pieces, arrange on plates and refrigerate. Change them about once every 2 days.
For prevention, you can simply use citrus peels: they will not cope with strong odors.
Place the crusts in a cloth bag and refrigerate. When the citrus flavor wears off, change the crusts.
